Emma Campbell completed her MA on the relationship between oral history, war memory, and state-sponsored history in New Zealand, 1945-2008 at the University of Otago in 2019.
Previously, her honours research dissertation focused on the role of New Zealand’s J-Force in the Allied Occupation of Japan, 1946-1948.
Specific research interests include state-sponsored history, oral history, war and memory, and East and Southeast Asian history.
Emma began her PhD studies at the University of Cambridge in October 2020. Her thesis explores the creation of official history in post-colonial Singapore, 1955-2015, and will examine its impact on national collective memory.
